Do you ever feel like a hamster in a wheel? That’s how running on a treadmill makes me feel, going nowhere fast. Today at 6 am was my first treadmill run at Planet Fitness. When I run on a treadmill I tend to stare at the time which makes the run feel tedious, even distractions like TV, music, and magazines don’t help too much. Still I managed to run 3.13 miles in 31:09, not bad considering I hadn’t run in a few weeks. I paced at 6-6.5 mph with a few sprints at 7.0 mph. I felt fantastic and energized at the end of the run!
When I run outside I can just go, no music, just me and the outdoors, although music is a nice addition at times. I thoroughly enjoy running outdoors, sometimes feeling as if I could run forever, not so much on the treadmill. Since this winter has been bombarded with snow which probably won’t melt until spring I’m going to need to find a way to make my treadmill workouts more exciting and less tedious, especially if I want to achieve my goal of a sub 2 hour 1/2 marathon. Any suggestions? How do you fight treadmill boredom?
