Today’s planned training run was a 4 mile easy run at a 10:00 mile pace. I won’t lie, it was a rough run, I barely made it through the 4 miles. I don’t know if the slight soreness from yesterday played a role or if it was just one of those days. Some runs feel like a breeze and some just plain suck. Today was one of those sucky days, but even though I felt sluggish I completed my run anyway!
I don’t pre-fuel prior to my am runs which I think may be resulting in me having difficulty getting through some them. I get up about 5:30 am and head right over to the gym which takes me about 10 minutes to get to from my house. With such a short time span if I eat I feel weighed down because the 20 minutes from the time I get up til the time I’m on the treadmill is not enough time for me to digest properly. Also there are some mornings I feel absolutely fine with out any pre-workout fuel, like yesterdays workout. Over the next couple of weeks I am going to try a few different options for pre-workout fuel to see if anything will sit well in my stomach and allow me to make the most my morning training. A couple ideas I have are a banana, a small yogurt or possibly a small smoothie immediately when I wake up. I will let you know what works and if it helps me get through my sluggish runs.
How do you pre-fuel prior to a workout when you have limited time?
