That is an understatement, I am actually obsessed with magazines. In addition to the multitude of print magazines I currently have on hand I also have Zinio for my iPad which also has about 6 different magazines on it, at least I am saving some paper!
My addiction began in my teens with magazines such as Seventeen, Teen, Tiger Beat and many others that I cannot think of right now. As I got a little older I enjoyed Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, In Style and again many others. When I got into fitness and cooking I added those types of magazines to my repertoire, parenting magazines came next and now I have added women’s magazines. I was for many years obsessed with tabloids too but I have come to realize that they all have the same stories so I have dwindled down my tabloid obsession to Us Weekly and OK.
You may wonder if I actually read all these magazines and the answer is yes I do. You may wonder if I work just to pay for my addiction and the answer is no. It is actually cheaper to get a subscription to a magazine than it is to buy it on a monthly basis and the more years you buy the cheaper it is. I also get many magazines for free from Free magazines on Facebook, you should check it out! I used to get tons of magazines for cheap on eBay but they have since eliminated that category from their lineup.
I am unable to go into any store that carries magazines whether it be a supermarket, drug store, book store or anywhere else without stopping to look to see what is new. When I go to the city (NYC) I can’t wait to get into Penn station just so I can visit the magazine stores. Am I addicted….absolutely!
I guess I could have worse addictions although some my say my addiction is killing trees and unfortunately although not my intention I am sure my addiction is directly related to the death of many trees. I am attempting to go somewhat paperless with Zinio but sometimes there is nothing like an actual paper magazine that I can fold down pages I like and rip out articles and recipes, you can do that with a paperless magazine. I do recycle by giving my magazines to others and putting them in the recycle bin, I do not throw the paper in the garbage, I try my best to do what is right for the environment.
What you see pictured above is a tamed down addiction, as hard as it may be to believe I used to be a lot worse. I don’t think I will ever be able to give up magazines completely but for the environment’s sake I will do my best to switch to paperless. I feel much better now that I have come clean about my addiction!
