I have officially made the switch, although this task seemed quite daunting when I researched how to actually do it, I was quite lucky to obtain help during the process which made it quite easy for me. Gautam from Bloggodown.com was nice enough to make the conversion for me with out any downtime to my blog at all. All I had to do was obtain a domain (which I already had), pick a host (I went with hostgator) and choose a theme for my blog, Gautam did the rest…..thankyou!!
This all took about 4 days total. Now I know that may seem like a lot of time but in actuality most of the “work” on Gautam’s end only only took about 1 1/2 to 2 days. Monday we started chatting about what he needed from me and what I wanted, which was basically to move my blog to WordPress with it intact and with a similar layout. I emailed Gautam all the info he needed on Tuesday and by Thursday morning the conversion was complete. Gautam did an excellent job and saved met the stress of figuring it out, which was getting more complicated the more I researched how to do it. Gautam answered all my questions (there were a lot) and he also guided me on how to tackle the basics of WordPress.
Gautam is a lifesaver!! If you need someone to move your blog check out his website Blog Godown or you can email him at email@example.com. Thanks for all your help Gautam!!!
Now on to the hard part…..making my blog look good. The biggest difference I have found so far with WordPress is that editing the template of your blog is difficult, especially for someone like me who is not HTML saavy. Blogger made that part easy but the customization cannot compare to the unlimited possibilities that WordPress offers. Editing the template basically had me on the verge of a nervous breakdown today. My head felt like it was being squeezed in a vice.
So I shut down my computer, took a deep breath and just put it out of my mind for a little while. When I went back to my blog I realized although it is not perfected yet it looks decent enough for now. I’m seriously considering hiring a blog designer to create a logo and to make my blog look perfect…..I am open to any suggestions and recommendations!!
That is my tale of my migration from Blogger to WordPress. Anxiety provoking…..definitely, but worth it? I think so.
This tweet gave me some hope that it will all be okay and it came at the perfect time, it was just what I needed to keep me from going over the edge. Thanks!!
