I saw this survey over on Run with Jess’s blog, it has apparently been making it’s rounds in the blogosphere so I thought I would join in on the fun. So read up and learn a little more about me.
What is your favorite type of cross training?
My favorite typethe of cross training is biking. In the summer I love to ride outdoors with the family, it is a fun activity we can all do together. In the winter and on rainy days I ride my recumbent bike while catching up on my favorite blogs, TV, magazines and books. Biking is a great low impact alternative to running.
What is your favorite song to run to?
That would be the have to be You’re The Best Around from the Karate Kid. This particular song always inspires and motivates me.
What type of shoes do you wear?
Right now I am wearing Mizuno Wave Alchemy sneakers. These sneakers are super supportive and look good too!!! I actually got these sneakers last year when I was selected as a tester for Fitness Magazine, free sneakers in exchange for my honest review.
Do you wear a hat when you run?
No. I always wear a Bondi Band to keep my hair and sweat out of my eyes. When it is really sunny out I will wear a visor which I prefer over a hat because it doesn’t make my head hot.
My favorite distance is definitely the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles), it’s just long enough that I feel like I have accomplished something great. With that being said I have yet to run a marathon but I do have guaranteed entry into the 2012 NYC Marathon so that will be my 1st. Running a marathon is on my bucket list and if I do just one that is fine, I suppose it’s possible I will love marathoning but I don’t think I will. So the NYC marathon will probably be my first and last marathon unless by some miracle I could qualify for the Boston.
Are you a morning, noon or evening runner?
I am normally morning runner, I love getting up first thing and heading out for a run. When I start my day with a run I feel accomplished and ready to face the rest of the day. Plus I know my workout for the day is done.
What’s your favorite post run snack?
A green monster smoothie. It is light, refreshing and gives me a ton of energy!
What was your favorite race?
I’d have to say thus far my favorite race was the Divs’s Half Marathon that I ran last October. It was my 1st half marathon, it was an all female race (except for the 2 men that just had to enter), during your last mile they give you a crown and a pink boa and finally after you cross the finish line you get a rose and champagne, what more could you ask for?
Do you wear a Garmin? If not, how do you track your runs?
I love my Garmin, I wear it during 95% of my outdoor runs. I like to be able to just go out for a run without having to map it out ahead of time and my Garmin allows me to do that. I also like knowing my pace, it keeps me on target. Ido occasionallyuse mapmyrun.com when I am running long distances just so I have a general idea of whereI am running. Mapmyrun.com is a great tool to map your runs out for a predetermined distance if you don’t have a Garmin or some other tool to track your distance while running.
What was your least favorite race?
My least favorite race was a one mile race that I ran on the 4th of July. The race was too short, very disorganized and my friend Crystal and I got lost trying to find the race. When we arrived we were told the race was going to begin in 8 minutes and the start line was one mile away, so basically we had to run to the start line, turn around and run the race. It just was not a fun, enjoyable race.
What race is your favorite medal from?
The Divs’s Half Marathon.
Who is your running idol?
My running idol was 9 time NYC Marathon winner Grete Waitz. Her book was On The Run: Exercise and Fitness for Busy People was one of the first running books I ever read. Unfortunately last month the running community lost a legend when Grete passed away at age 57 from cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, Grete lived an inspiring life and she won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
How long have you been a runner?
I have been a runner for 14 years. I started running after the birth of my first daughter and have been running ever since. I used to race a lot of 5K’s, distance running (half marathons) has only recently become a passion f mine.
Do you run with your engagement/wedding ring when you run?
I run with my wedding band which I never take off unless I am mixing meatballs. I do not run with my engagement ring since it only makes an appearance on my finger during special occasions.
What’s your favorite workout? repeats? long runs? tempo? fartleks?
My favorite workout is mile repeats because I can push my body to the limit and the time passes quickly.
