I woke up this morning at 5am all ready to go to CrossFit, but I was sore all over, so I checked out what the workout of the day was on their site and there was no way I was going to be able to do it feeling the way I was feeling so I went back to sleep. Some days you need to listen to your body, if I had gone to CrossFit I probably would not have been able to run my scheduled 5 mile long run today and I felt the run was more important.
So I had a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and then headed over to Cedar Creek Park at 9 am for my “long” run of the week.
I ran 2.5 miles on the trail and then turned around to complete 5 miles total. I like running out and back because you have no excuse to stop, you have to get back where you started and this particular trail runs along the parkway to the beach so there really is nowhere to stop, just parkway and trees. The first 2.5 miles I felt great, a little hot but great. Unfortunately on this trail you are usually running against the wind either out or back, today it was back. Combine the wind with my tiredness and my calf soreness from my new Reebok’s, the way back was much harder and slower. All in all it was still a great run and I loved my new Reebok’s, other than the calf soreness (which I hear is normal with minimalist sneakers) I didn’t have any pain or develop any blisters…yay!!! We will see how I feel tomorrow.
Cherries have a compound in them called anthocyanins which are natural pain relievers and anti-inflammatories, I can definitely use that after today’s run, hopefully they will help me feel less sore tomorrow.
Does anyone have any fit plans for the weekend?
