Vacation is over and I am back to work tomorrow 🙁 We had a mini vacation on the Jersey Shore this week and I am sad that it is over. Vacations always go by way too quick and then recovering from them usually take a few days too!
We left Tuesday morning for Atlantic City for our one night stay at The Showboat. We arrived in AC around noon and since check-in time was 4 o’clock we braved the heat and headed for the beach. Abby played in the sand and the water for about an hour by which time we were starving so we went to The Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. After lunch we checked in early at The Showboat, dropped off our bags in the room and went to the rooftop pool for awhile.
After the Pool we showered and headed to the boardwalk for some much needed exercise. We walked about 4 miles on the Boardwalk stopping at a Go Kart Track so Angelica and Chris could race each other. After dinner Chris and I headed into the casino for a little adult fun, I played the slots and quickly lost my 100 bucks in less than an hour so I went up to the room to watch TV with the girls. Chris played poker and was much more successful than me, he played for about 5 hours and won $350…yay!!!
One night in Atlantic City is more than enough time so on Wednesday morning we checked out and headed to Long Beach Island. We stayed at the Spray Beach Inn on Wednesday and Thursday, it was okay, we had a few issues and I probably wouldn’t stay there again but we didn’t spend that much time in the room anyway. When we booked the hotel we were supposed to have an ocean view, unfortunately our room only had a view of the dune and we were told if we had called they would have told us that it was an obstructed view…..gee thanks. My husband then tried to switch our room to poolside but when we got to the second room it was all the way in the corner and I couldn’t see the pool unless I stuck my head out the bathroom window, plus they were going to charge us an extra $15 a night, so I went back to the front desk and got my original room back.
Long Beach Island is a great place for a family vacation. The beaches are nice, they have an amusement park, water slides, mini golf, a cute village, boat rentals and everything else you need to have fun while vacationing with the kids. My husband’s family spends a week there every year and since we don’t get to see them too often we decided to spend a few days on the Island while they were there. We spent most of our time on the beach with them and at their houses at night just catching up and having fun. We also spent a few hours at the water park, Abby even got to experience her first “big” water slide and although she looked terrified she wanted to keep going back for more. We also played golf, walked around and shopped.
We had a great few days, too short as always! We left this morning and with the heat I am actually happy we weren’t going to be there another night, it was just scorching out. Our car thermometer actually read 118 at one point on our way home…unbelievable.
Now it is time to detox from all of the overindulgences, I have such a hard time staying completely healthy while on vacation, but I try to balance out the good and the bad as much a possible. We indulged for breakfast and lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday so for dinner both nights I only had a salad. Thursday was a free for all and Friday I had such a heavy breakfast I skipped lunch and only ate dinner. I did manage to workout to an endurance DVD on Wednesday morning for 42 minutes and we did a lot of walking, but I didn’t end up running because of the heat. I would have liked to work out a little more but there was no gym available at either hotel and once I started spending time with the family I just lost my motivation.
I am feeling pretty blah from the lack of exercise coupled with all the overeating, but tomorrow is a new day, so while the vacation was great it is time to get back on track with my workouts and clean eating.
How do you stay on track while on vacation?
