Sometimes the stars align and a fantastic run is born. Yesterday was one of those days, when I began running I just knew I would do great. I was full of adrenaline and ready to run!!!
Saturday I visited the Health and Fitness Expo and picked up a new running skirt, a running belt with water bottles plus some Generation UCAN pre and post race fuel.
I couldn’t resist buying a new running skirt for the race and this skirt rocked!!! Pocket with zipper in front, 2 pockets on each leg and it did not ride up at all…plus it was cute. My only complaint is that when I went to put my GU in the leg pocket Sunday morning there was a hole 🙁 I have emailed the company so lets see what they do about it. It is funny that my friend went to the expo later that day and bought the same exact skirt!! Great minds think alike.
My race day outfit:
My outfit was so comfortable, the running skirt rocked!!! Pre-race I had a mini whole wheat bagel with low-fat cream cheese, tea with fat free half and half, 1 banana plus a packet of Generation UCAN pomegranate Blueberry. The GenerationUCAN drink is supposed to sustain energy, optimize performance and enhance fat burn without causing GI distress. Now I know you are not supposed to try anything new on race morning but I did……and it worked!!! I felt energized and I didn’t even feel the need to refuel until mile 8!! Thanks Generation UCAN!!
My friend Crystal picked me up at 7am and we headed to the race. We did not run together but both finished with fantastic times!!
Last year this was my first 1/2 Marathon and this year it was my 4th. I had a little spiritual experience this year and whether it was real or oxygen deprivation I am thankful al the same. I started the race race running pretty quick…a 9:00 first mile followed by many 8:15-8:30 miles until mile 7 where I slowed to 8:45 to 9:20….anyhow at mile 4 I was feeling like maybe I couldn’t sustain the pace any longer when I had this overwhelming feeling that my grandfather was near (he passed away 3/17/09) and I saw this beautiful Monarch butterfly in front of me for a minute or so. Then at mile 7 I was feeling a little defeated and I saw another Monarch flying in format of me for a minute or so. Finally at mile 9 I knew I would finish but my goals was for under 2 hours and I was doubting myself…yes I saw another Monarch at this point. Strange but true…..I am not overly religious but I do believe in signs and this was definitely a sign…oxygen deprived or not.
A great race for both of us!! I may not have achieved a new PR but I am proud of my time!!! Maybe next year I will hit 1:45…….
My husband was waiting at he finish line but he didn’t see me and I didn’t see him…so I do not have any pics of me running at this time but here are some post 1/2 marathon pics:
A great race, some times everything just aligns to make the perfect!!! How was everyone else’s weekend??
today actually next Monday (someone told me it was today and I believed them without checking) is exactly 12 weeks until New Year’s….new goals to start the New Year fit!!!!
