Hi my name is Toni and I am a procrastinator. I have a major problem with both procrastination and following through, I tend to start things but never finish. I make goals and outline my plans, then I start but I never completely finish resulting in many unmet goals which just leads me to become upset with myself which leads to feelings of inadequacy. I know it is a problem and I know I have to change or else I will never accomplish any goal that I want to achieve.
I have hope that I can change because I have followed through on a few things in my life and when I really decided I wanted something I was able to focus, follow through and achieve my ultimate goal. I have 3 examples of what I can accomplish when I actually follow through on my plans to meet certain goals:
- Nursing school: I went back to college when I was 24 to become a nurse. It took my 4 years instead of 2 because I wanted all my to get all the classes other than nursing out of the easy before I actually started the nursing program so I took all those first and then applied to nursing school. I applied to a very competitive Associates Degree program, the year applied 1800 students applied and they only accepted 190. I was one of those lucky 190. On the first day of the program the teachers basically told us to forget about our lives for the next 2 years because if we wanted to be successful in this program we were going to be working very hard. I also continued to work 2 nights a week at a hospital as an aide and on weekends I worked at a doctor’s office while killing myself in nursing school. Thankfully I had a very supportive husband and family. I began the nursing school part of my education in 2004 and graduated in 2006 Summa Cum Laude. This was an amazing accomplishment, my class started with 190 and only about 120 graduated with only 5 of us graduating Summa Cum Laude.
- Long Island 1/2 Marathon: In January 2010 I set out to accomplish a sub-2 hour 1/2 marathon on May 1st 2010 at the Long Island 1/2 Marathon. I created a plan, started a blog and followed through completing the 1/2 marathon in 1:54:36 even after being injured and not running the 2 weeks prior to the race.
- My Blog: I started this blog at the end of January and it is now November. I am even surprised a little with myself that I have kept blogging this long. In May I switched form Blogger to WordPress (self-hosted) and with this switch I signed up for a 3-year contract with my current host. I plan to continue to blog because I really love it plus I paid for 3 years so there is no turning back now.
