This week was a washout for me. I was sick for most of the week and basically all my exercise plans did not happen. The Pile on the Miles challenge started this week and my plan was to run 5 miles on Thursday but I woke up too sick to even think about running. I am currently blogging from bed this morning trying to rest and get better. My plans are to be up and running, literally, by Sunday.
Even though I feel like crap and running is the last thing on my mind I can’t help but be excited that this is marathon weekend in NYC. The NYC marathon is an exciting event every year and it’s even more exciting to me this year because next year I get to be a part of it!! I have earned a coveted guaranteed entry for the 2012 NYC marathon because I have tried the last 3 years to get in via the lottery and have been denied. This form of guaranteed entry is going to be phased out in the next 5 years but for next year I am eligible!!!
Since I began running at 19 I have always dreamed of running a marathon, isn’t that every runner’s goal? I am also a realist in the sense that I know I may only run one marathon in my life so my first, and possibly last marathon would have to be the NYC marathon. I have tried multiple times to get into this marathon through the lottery and have always been denied, but I had never been able to apply three times in a row because of injury or pregnancy or nursing school, until 2009. I applied in 2009, 2010, 2011 and was denied every time which has earned me a spot in the 2012 ING NYC Marathon!!!!!
I am excited to watch the marathon on TV this weekend but I am even more excited knowing that next year people will be watching me on TV. This race has been a long time coming and my goal is to run it in 4 to 4.5 hours, a lofty goal but I do have a year to prepare. My friends have tried to coerce me into running other marathons but I always insisted that my first marathon has to be the NYC marathon and once I have run this race I may or may not ever run another marathon again but I will have accomplished my dream.
Good luck to all the racers this weekend!!!
Are you running the ING NYC Marathon this weekend or will you be watching it on TV?
