Today officially kicks off the start of my training for the NYC Half-Marathon which takes place on March 18th. My goal time for this race is 1:45 but considering it is supposed to be a tough course I will be happy with anything under 1:50. As usual I waited to until the last minute to plan out my training, so on Saturday I sent out a Twitter plea for help:
I got this reply:

And the rest is history! I DM’d Adam AKA The Boring Runner and I now have a coach for the next 10 weeks to help me achieve my goal for the NYC Half. I will be getting week by week customized training and encouragement from Adam. If you need a running coach or just a training plan you can email him and be sure to tell him I sent you!!! (If you sign up I do get a referral bonus)
Here is my schedule for my first week of training:
This morning I got up at a god awful 4:30 am to get to the gym by 5 am. I need to leave for work at 7:20 so if I want to fit in a workout at the gym I need to be there by 5 am, sometimes earlier depending on the length of my workout. Lucky for me Planet Fitness is open 24 hours during the week!
I set my alarm for 4:30 am but my anxiety about getting up early had me up every hour checking the clock so I never even needed the alarm, hopefully this will not happen before every early workout because I am absolutely exhausted now. I think I was just excited about starting today!!! Last night I laid out all my workout clothes and everything I needed for the gym so I could just get up, get ready and go…no excuses.
I hopped on the treadmill at exactly 5 am and began my tempo run, here is the breakdown of the workout:
- 1 mile warm-up (6.2 mph=9:41 pace)
- 3 mile tempo (7.5 mph=8:00 pace)
- 1 mile cool down (6.0 mph=10:00 pace for 0.25 mile and 6.2 mph for 0.75 mile)
- Total: 5 Miles in 43:27
