The long awaited recap is finally here!!! This past Saturday I headed to the city for January’s NYC blogger playdate arranged by the Keelie Sheridan from Sweat = Success. Saturday’s playdate started at Anderson’s Martial Arts Academy for their unique Kettlebell Kickboxing class courtesy of the lovely owner and instructor Dasha Libin (in pic below).
I have taken kettlebell classes before but none quite like this class. I am still sore 4 days later, this class worked all my muscles, some I didn’t even know I had!!!
Here is the description of the class from their website:
“Kettlebell Kickboxing™ is a one-of-a-kind FEMALE only method developed by fitness & martial art expert Dasha Libin, MS,NASM-PES, NASE. Kettlebell Kickboxing™ redefines the body by combining the sleek and deadly motions of Muay Thai with the power and strength of Russian kettlebell training, creating a NON-impact 60 minute total body scorching class. Burn 1,000 calories – getting Long & Lean at the same time.”

This class was awesome! I was sweating within 5 minutes of the start and continued to do so for the whole hour! This class utilized full body movements to work every muscle. From classic kettlebell movements to kickboxing to martial arts to plyometrics, this class incorporated it all to give a complete full body workout!
I have worked with kettlebells in the past so I am somewhat comfortable with them and the classic movements but even if you are a beginner this class is for you! Dasha and her team of instructors watched everyone throughout the entire class and they corrected form when needed so everyone received the full benefit of the class while performing the moves properly. The class moved fast and furious through intervals cardio moves infused with strength without a moment to rest. We squatted, kicked, punched, swung kettlebells and basically worked ourselves until we were completely exhausted and dripping in sweat!!!
When I first tried kettlebells I loved them but running has always taken priority over other workouts, although now that I am injured I am exploring my options. This class reminded me of what I love about weight training…the feeling of accomplishment…of feeling of being strong!!! Running will always be #1 in my book but I also love to strength train and I miss that feeling of strength. With that being said, kettlebells provide the full body circuit training workout I am looking to incorporate into my workout schedule a few times a week.
Dasha has a DVD series coming out soon and I am definitely getting a copy so I can incorporate this awesome workout into my DVD lineup at home. We also received some free passes to return for another class…definitely a reason to head back into the city….soon!!!
Thanks Dasha for a great class!!!! I look forward to returning in the near future!!!
What is a blogger playdate without food?!?? After we worked up an appetite during Kettlebell Kickboxing we headed to Buddha Bodai for a late vegetarian lunch in Chinatown.
Chinatown was celebrating the Chinese New Year which made it slightly difficult to work our way through the crowds to get to the restaurant but it turned out to be a great experience especially considering this was my first official trip to Chinatown !
There were tons of people, dragons, party poppers, and confetti littering the streets!!!
After an interesting walk we finally arrived at our destination!!!
I was absolutely starving by the time we arrived at the restaurant!!! The menu was huge which made it extremely difficult to decide on what to eat……I ended up with hot and sour soup and spicy eggplant with noodles.
The food was almost as good as the company!!!
A big thanks to Keelie for making this happen!!!!!
Today was a day of firsts for me: My first Kettlebell Kickboxing class, my first trip to Chinatown, my first vegetarian restaurant and my first time catching a cab in the city by myself!!!!!!
Check out all the past #NYC blogger playdates on Keelie’s page and if you live in the area or want to join in on the fun just send Keelie a tweet or an email to be notified of future events!!!
