On January 7th, 2012 Sherry Arnold left her house in Sidney, Montana for an early morning run and never returned.   Although the details are sketchy news reports say 2 men kidnapped Sherry around 6:40 am only 10 minutes after she left her home and one of these men apparently confessed to her murder.  We had all hoped for Sherry’s safe return to her family and discovering that would never happen is devastating, my heart goes out to her family and friends.

Sherry’s cousin Beth, from Shut Up and Run, has put together a virtual run for today in honor of Sherry.  People around the world will be running today in her honor thanks to Beth.  I printed out my bib and although I cannot run due to a stress fracture I did hop on my recumbent bike for a 9 mile ride in honor of Sherry.

I did not know Sherry personally but from everything I have read she was a wonderful person that was loved by her family and community.  She did not deserve this and nether did her family.  I may have not known her personally but her story has affected me and people around the world.  Sherry’s memory will live on and I can only hope justice will be served to provide her family with the peace an closure they deserve.

This event jarred the running community worldwide.  Running is a sanctuary for most and the evil of 2 men has made many of us question the sanctity of our runs.  I know evil exists but it is hard to understand why things like this happen to someone who was so obviously cherished by so many people.  I will not allow this tragedy stop me from running, I will not allow evil to win.  I know there is good in the world, the fact that thousands of people have come together today to participate in a virtual run for Sherry is solid proof of this good.  We will overcome evil and honor Sherry’s life by living without fear.

Live your life to the fullest without fear!!  Kiss your loved ones every chance you get and tell them how much you love them.

Run Often, Love Completely, Live Fully

Did you participate in the virtual run for Sherry Arnold today?

  1. Scary stuff but inspiring that so many around the world can participate in her honor.

  2. Way to ride in honor of Sherry! I was on a plane for the run, but plan to do it today even though I’m late.

  3. Very nice that you found a way to honor Sherry even with the injury!

  4. This is the first I’d read about it. This is the sort of story every one of us dreads to hear. How absolutely tragic. I’ll think of her and her family on my next run.
