Get-Fit-Naturally, one of my favorite blogs, is hosting a Get-Fit Blog Hop this week and I have decided to join in on the action.
To me getting fit means taking steps necessary to lead a healthier lifestyle.
The first step is making the decision to “get fit”, then creating a plan with both short and long term goals. Short term goals may include running a 5K or starting the day with a healthy breakfast. Long term goals may include losing 10 pounds or running a marathon. When making your goals take a good look at your current fitness level and choose goals appropriate to what you can realistically achieve. Unrealistic goals just lead to feelings of disappointment and failure.
Step two is to put your plan into action. Make appointments for exercise and keep a food journal for accountability. Writing everything down is one of the best ways to stay accountable and to achieve your goals. You can use a Fitbook, which is a small journal that has space for tracking exercise, diet and goals or you can use an app on your phone like MyFitnessPal. Whatever your preference is just be honest because you only hurt you by not being truthful.
Make sure to measure your progress either with measurements or with fitness tests. I exclude weight because weight can fluctuate due to a multitude of factors including hormonal changes and muscle gain which can leave you feeling disappointed even though your are feeling and looking better. Track your progress once a month or once every 6 weeks not everyday because at these points in time you will be able to see changes hopefully for the better but if not then you can look back on your journals to see where you need to make adjustments.
Make small changes and take the time to develop them into habits. Fitness is an ongoing process, we all have our ups and downs but if we take the time to form healthy habits then we will never be missing the unhealthy ones. Once you meet your goals create new ones to keep yourself constantly challenged and motivated.
We are always a work in progress and only you can push yourself to be the best you possible.
What does getting fit mean to you???
