The most important lesson I have learned in life thus far is to be happy now! Stop waiting for your life to get better and work towards making it better but don’t bank your entire happiness on what will be but accept your life as it is and enjoy it now. If we are always acting for something better to be happy and enjoy our lives then we may never be happy.
People say it all the the time: I will be happy when I get that promotion. I will be happy when we get married. I will be happy when I get fit. The list goes on and on and on. What happens when you get that promotion and the job isn’t what you expected and you have to spend more hours at work. What happens when you get married and things are exactly the same. What happens when you get fit but you are still unhappy.
It is great to have goals and to move towards things that will make your life more complete but banking your happiness on these things is foolish. Appreciate and be happy with your life right now right in this moment. You may hate your job but you have a great family at home so be happy that you can go home to your family and work towards finding a job that suits you better. You may think getting married will make you happy but take a good look at what makes you happy in your relationship now because although marriage is a great step forward the only thing that changes is you are now tied to someone else legally. You may not be perfectly fit but take the time to appreciate yourself and work towards making yourself better if that is what you need to do but don’t bank you happiness on it.
The lesson in this post is not to wait to be happy because you may never be happy if you keep waiting for something better. Appreciate what you do have right now and then make the changes necessary to make your life better. I would love to be richer, live in a bigger house, make blogging my living, live on a beach somewhere and never work but those things are dreams that may never come true so I don’t plan to bank my happiness on them. I may not have the biggest house or enough time off or the perfect body but I am happy with what I do have and that is a fantastic family that loves me.
My plan is to work toward my goals and to live my life to the fullest but I won’t wait to be happy. I am happy right now, right in this moment and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
