Yesterday I ran the Long Island Marathon 10K with the hopes of finishing in under 1 hour. Guess what?!??! I did it!!! 55:41 officially!!!!
There were 1416 runners total and 883 females. I placed 256th overall, 15th in my age group and was the 87th female to cross the finish line! I am really proud of how well I did and only hope to keep improving my times from here on out!!!
Crystal picked me up for the race at 7am and the weather was perfect!! We made it to the start line with plenty of time to spare but not enough time to use the Porta Potty so Crystal was out of luck in that department.
Crystal and I lined up at the 9 minute mile mark and parted ways as soon as the race started. I finished about 30 minutes before Crystal So I had time to walk around and then catch a couple of pics of Crystal crossing the finish line. I also got see the 1st and 2nd place female winners of the Half-Marathon cross the finish line which was awesome!!! Congrats ladies!
Here are my splits for the race:
I am proud of every mile I did in this race. I started to slow in mile 4 but when I hit mile 5 the theme song to Rocky came on my iPod and it just motivated me to push harder!! I had the most amazing runner’s high after I crossed the finish line and I cannot wait for my next race! Next year I am toying with the idea of running the Long Island Marathon because I have completed the half and the 10K so the marathon distance is the last event plus it is a flat course which is perfect for me to achieve my goal of running a marathon in 4 hours. I will let you know what I decide after I run the NYC Marathon in November.
I am loving this medal!!!
Great race!! I got tons of compliments on my Sparkleskirt and my Team Tough Chik shirt throughout the race!! Sparkleskirts is by far the best running skirt I have ever worn!! The best part of the skirt is that the shorts underneath they do not ride up at all they stay in place during the entire run! If you are in the market for a running skirt then you check them out. (Check out my review here) Team Tough Chik has reopened their registration for the Spring and you can sign up until 5/13 so be sure to check them out!!!
I have been trying out Sharkies and used them during this race at mile 3 to refuel and energize!! I will be posting a full review and giveaway for them later this week!
Did you race this weekend? How did you do?

Great job on the 10k!! I’ve yet to try a 10k, but hope to soon!
I ran the Everest Expedition 5k, obstacle & scavenger hunt race at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this past Saturday. It was a lot of fun. My first Disney race. Did it with a friend, we wore tutu’s and the whole shabang.. LOL It was my first time running with a tutu also.. I’m not sure if I’ll be doing that again.. LOL

They give out medals for the 10K now?! Oh man!
I ran the LI Half marathon in 2009 (my first half!) and 2010. I miss the course…so nice and flat!
Awesome finish! If you’re looking into doing the full LI Marathon, my only advice is that you brace yourself for the boredom. Most of the race is on the Wantagh Parkway…looking at nothing
They do give out medals now, this is the first year! I know it is a boring marathon but I figure it is flat and fast, I PR’d last year during the half. Thanks of the advice.
Great job, girl!!! I wish my splits looked like yours, but they will one day, right?
I’m actually looking into all the different re-fueling options out there and how much they actually help. Can’t wait to hear your review.
