This weekend started out with my first annual Backyard Bash!!! I would say it was a complete success except for the fact I am still cleaning up
Saturday was a perfect day and we enjoyed spending time with our friends and family. The day included a food, beer, margaritas, a waterslide, lots of water balloons and just some plain old fun!! The only downside to the party for me was that I had to run the Queens 10K Sunday morning which meant a 5:30 am wake up call
The party started at 2pm and ended probably at 5am although I was asleep by 11pm because I knew I had to get up early the next morning.
As you can see we had a fantastic time but between the fresh margaritas I made and the keg I certainly didn’t feel like getting up at 5:30 am on Sunday when my alarm went off but knowing that Sarah from Running to Keep Up with a Toddler was picking me up at 6 am motivated me to get out of bed. Sarah arrived at 6 am on the dot and we had an uneventful ride to Citifield, we were parked by 6:30 am and only had a short walk to the start after meeting up with some of Sarah’s co-workers.

We met up with my friend Crystal and her friend Michelle on the way to the start corrals, I took a quick pic with Crystal and then Sarah and I headed to the start. I was actually assigned to corral number 7 but considering my pre-race fuel of alcohol (not something I suggest drinking too much of the night before any race) I decided to line up with everyone else in corral number 9.

I just planned to run this race at a really relaxed pace, I wasn’t shooting for any particular time I just wanted to finish in one piece because it was hot!! The race started at exactly 8 am and we made to to the start line close to 8 minutes later. These were the conditions we faced at the beginning of the race:
I pretty much ran a steady race walking through every water station and hitting every cooling station to get me through the heat! When I saw this I new I was close to the end:
This is the first time I have broken out my camera during a run but I was so happy that there was only about a 1/2 mile left in the race I couldn’t resist taking a pic of this view especially since I wasn’t running for time. I have no idea how bloggers take pics during their runs and still maintain there time…..any hints!?! I finished the race with a respectable time of 1:01:31 and I was so excited to be greeted with an awesome medal at the end of the race!!!
Here is my official time:

Here are my splits:
I’d say a great race overall!! I would definitely do this race again but not after a night of partying. This would be a perfect race to score a PR and next year that is exactly what I plan to do!!
Sarah finished about 7 or 8 minutes after me and we waited about another 10 minutes for her friend before heading home. On the way back to the car someone was yelling “hey you!” and when I finally realized he was talking to me I walked over to him to see what he wanted. I was wearing my Ink’n'Burn outfit and this guy was actually wearing Ink’n'Burn too, so he wanted to get a pic of me because he rarely sees anyone else in Ink’n'Burn. I immediately said yes and grabbed my own pic of the two of us together:
Ink’n'Burn has awesome running clothes that are extremely comfortable, so if you need a new outfit be sure to check them out!!!
A want to send big thanks to Sarah for picking me up on Sunday morning because without her I probably would have skipped this amazing race!! You can also read Sarah’s race recap here.
Have you ever partied hard and then run a race?!?
