Life is all about change and adjusting to your current circumstances. We are all constantly changing and growing, hopefully for the better.
Two years ago Abby was only 20 months old and I was only working weekends and holidays so I could stay home with her during the week, which was a blessing. I was happy to be home with Abby during the week and really enjoyed that I got to spend so much time with her but I was also unhappy that I have to work every weekend and holiday 😥 I was also training for the Diva’s Half-Marathon, which was my first and the longest distance I had ever run. I ended up completing it in 2:05
Fast forward 2 years to the present and boy has my life changed.
The summer before Abby turned three I started to really miss having a regular schedule and decided that I would go back to work full-time during the week which meant no weekends or holidays. With that decision also came the decision to send Abby to school full-time which turned out to be a great experience for her because during her first year her social skills improved and she learned so much more than I could ever teach her at home. During this time I also somehow became the mother of a high school student too!!!
Over the past 2 years I have also completed four half-marathons, about four 10Ks and many 5Ks. I met my goal of running a half-marathon in under 2 hours and I am now embarking on my ultimate running goal which is to run the NYC Marathon!!! I am so excited to finally be at this point in my running because I have had so many injuries over the years I never really thought I would ever get to this point!!!
Today I also ran my fastest mile ever during the Massapequa Merchants Mile Race:
This is after already running 6 miles!!!! Unbelievable!!!
I have also changed as a person. I began this blog in January 2011 as a way to chronicle my journey to running the Long Island Half-Marathon in under 2 hours but what I gained instead was a passion for sharing my adventures with my readers and a community of bloggers who support each other every day. Starting my blog was one of the bravest things I have ever done in my life because I put myself out there in the world like I never had in my 34 years of life. Growing up I was painfully shy, unpopular and just scared to take chances because of the fear of rejection but this blog was my way to move past all those feelings and become the person I always knew I could be regardless of what anyone else thought.
I have recently joined the We Are Athletes Running Team which was another big step for me because growing up I was never part of any team, I was more of a loner. Everyone on the team has made me feel welcome and supported from the moment I stepped on the track to train with them and that is exactly what I hoped for when joining this team. The support and camaraderie at the races is just unbelievable, it feels like a second family. 😆 I have been at just about every practice since I joined and I don’t foresee that changing anytime in the near future.
I have grown and changed over the past 2 years and I expect that in 2 years from now I will have changed even more. I have some goals for myself, both personally and professionally, that I hope to accomplish over the next 5 years. I plan to make the most of my life and I plan to turn as many of my dreams into reality as possible. If anything has changed the most over the last 2 years for me it is that I will not be afraid to reach for my dreams in fear of failure because if I never try I will never know what I could have accomplished.
How have you changed over the past 2 years??
