This was supposed to be my best year of running and thus far it is turning into my worst. I made some big running goals for this year and so far I have not met one of them due to injury and illness. You can check out my Goals here. My biggest goal was to run the NYC Marathon and after heading out for a disappointing run today I am facing the real possibility that the marathon may not be in the cards for me this year.
These were my running goals for 2012:
I will run a 1/2 Marathon in 1:45.had to pull back due to a stress fracture, was supposed to run the NYC 1/2- I will run the NYC Marathon in
4 hours.Changed it to finish, hopefully in under 5 hours - I will run a 5K in under
25 minutes, hoping to break 23 minutes.5K’s are on the backburner until after the marathon - I will run a 10K in under
50 minutes.Had planned to do this during the NYC mini 10K but developed severe bronchitis with a 102 fever 2 days before the race.
What did I actually achieve this year:
- I earned a new 5K PR-25:09
- I ran my fastest mile-7:01
- I ran my longest distance-14.2 miles
I am hoping this pain is not a stress fracture and only a minor injury that will just require some non-impact rest. I have an orthopedist appointment Tuesday afternoon with a different orthopedist than I saw 2 weeks ago because I didn’t like that he ignored my shin pain during that visit. I will keep you all updated on my progress this week with my injury. In the meantime I will be doing yoga and the elliptical trainer.
Here is a vlog I made after my disappointing attempt on my run today which can aslo be considered my week 11 marathon training recap:

Oh, boy, that is tough. Injuries suck and I had an appt. today to see what was happening to my hip. I have bursitis, planter fasciitis, and SI joint pain. I am on the road to getting it all taken care of, but there is nothing more frustrating than dealing with pain and injury. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope for the best.

Thanks!!!
If everything is ok I would push for physical therapy . I have done it just to increase the time to recovery and has worked. Good luck!
Thanks, will do!
Toni – I hope that it just turns out to be something minor! No matter what you have had a great year to date and will continue to have an even better year next year :-).

Thanks Harold!
Oh no…. I haven’t heard from you in a while, so I wanted to hear about your training. I hope you get some answers at your appt on Tuesday. I’m sorry you are in pain. 🙁

Thanks Sarah, we will talk soon. I have peeking in on your training!
Hang in there Toni…..I was sidelined a year ago after getting hit by a car running – thank God it wasn’t anything too horrible – cuts bruises and a deep bone bruise in my knee…..those weeks of not running tortured me. However, when I was able to restart training I came back more determined and faster than ever before…..don’t give up hope. Hope that the new orthopedist has more answers and you are back on the road soon! Keep us updated…..
Thanks Rose! I am glad you made it through, I know I will get to where I need to be…eventually.
Oh my heart goes out to you. Injuries just suck, period. Hope the ortho is able to pinpoint something. I had severe shinsplints during last year’s training so hopefully that is all you are experiencing. In the meantime, are you using KT tape. It at least takes some of the pressure off…will keep you in my thoughts.
