It is Wednesday and the only good thing about this week is that tomorrow morning I will be on my way to Baltimore heading to FitBloggin!!!!!
This will be my first trip by myself and away from my family which means I am a real grown up now!!! I am so excited to be attending this conference and to have the opportunity to meet up with some of my favorite bloggers in real life. I am getting a little upset about leaving my 3 year old but I know she is in good hands with the hubby plus there is always SKYPE, especially during all the workouts I cannot participate in now because of my shin.
Yesterday I headed to an orthopedist and unfortunately I do not have an “official” diagnosis but just a probable diagnosis of a stress fracture. Stress fractures do not necessarily show up on regular xrays which means I will be having a bone scan on Monday for an official confirmation. When I questioned at the doctor about running the NYC Marathon he just looked at me and told me that I probably already knew the answer but to lay off any exercise until next week after the bone scan because he has been wrong every once in awhile. I then questioned him if I could use the spin bike or elliptical in the meantime but he said since my leg is hurting just from walking that I should lay off all exercise until next week
I am not happy but I will listen to the doctor’s orders, for now. I am trying to stay positive but the pessimist in me keeps rearing its ugly head. I will just concentrate on upper body, abs and stretching until I go back to the orthopedist next week.
How have you dealt with injury in the midst of training for a big event?

I have to go to the doctor’s today to see what’s up with my knee. Maybe we can sit out all of the exercise classes together.

Also, I don’t know why that face looks so happy. It was not intended to be. Ay yi yi!
Definitely, I cannot do any of the classes except maybe yoga!! WOuld love to hang!
Oh Toni!!! I hope it turns out to be good news!!! You have worked so hard! I hurt my back while training for my first half after having my daughter. It was a wake up call to listen to my body and not overdo it! Resting was hard but it got me to where I needed to be.
Thanks Nancy!!!
Total bummer about the injury =( Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as expected and you heal fast!

sorry about the injury! but Fitbloggin sounds awesome! HLS was the first time I traveled alone and although it didn’t go as easy as I thought it would it definitely made me feel like a grown up! (:

Thanks! I hope my trip to Baltimore is uneventful, I wish I could have made HLS this year.
Hi Toni, I know how tough it is to net be able to do your regular training. I haven’t had any injuries but sometimes I got the flu right before an event, and I had to stay in bed and not train. Anyways, your health comes first so listen to the doctors.

Oh Toni – I’m so sorry about your shin and about NYCM. I know that’s a huge disappointment. Injuries are hard and frustrating but I would definitely lay off the exercise until you know the full story after your scan. I know that it’s hard to lay off exercise when it’s such a huge part of your life but it’s better to do it now and hopefully for a short period of time than risk longer-term injury. I’m finally starting to get back to being more active after my knee surgery. While I still can’t do a number of things, I am grateful for the progress I’ve made. And you WILL heal.
