A Diagnosis, the NYC Marathon, and a #FFDietBet

by Toni Church on January 20, 2013

Hi all!!  I hope you have had a great weekend!!!!

My weekend has basically consisted of recovery from what I originally thought was the flu, but turned out to be pneumonia icon sad A Diagnosis, the NYC Marathon, and a #FFDietBet  It also turns out that I am at the end of an Epstein Barr infection (Mono), which actually explains why I have been feeling so crappy for the last few months.  I am finally feeling slightly better and hope to be back up and running by the end of the week!

This week I had to choose my resolution to the NYC Marathon.  I actually didn’t think I would have this option since I deferred prior to the cancellation, but I guess anyone who registered was eligible.  Although I wanted this year to be the year of the marathon, the fact is that I have not been running consistently for the past 6-months due to injury and illness.  I had planned to start back up after the Commitment Run on January 1st, unfortunately I have been plagued with illness that is just now resolving.

I wavered back on forth between getting a refund or deferring.  Originally I thought I would just get a refund, but I KNOW I want to run NYC eventually, so I decided to choose a deferment until 2014!!!!

Over the last week during this illness I have actually lost about 7 pounds without even trying, no surprise considering my normal hearty appetite was non-existent.  Tomorrow actually starts the FitFluential DietBet, which means I have to lose 4% of my body weight over the next month to win!!  I am super excited to start as that 5.3 pounds will bring me back into my “normal” weight range, which I haven’t seen since I started working full time.

Have you joined the FitFluential DieBet??!?!

If you haven’t you still have time!!!  The pot is so close to $10,000, which is great motivation to win!!!  Just know that everyone who loses their 4% splits the pot at the end of the DietBet!  You can sign up here!!!!

I am looking forward to getting back on track this week, being sick just plain sucks!!!!!

How do you get back on track after a serious illness???

I’m getting over a week of being sick, so the next week or two will be all about getting back on track. I plan to walk the first few days, and then move into other forms of cardio but decrease my pace. Congrats on your decision for the NYC marathon!

I wouldn’t know what to do in that situation, but it sounds like you thought it through fully and made the best choice for yourself. Hope you feel better soon!

Oh my goodness! I’m glad that you now have a diagnosis and I hope that you feel better soon. I had pneumonia twice when I was younger and it is NO FUN. I’m not sure what I would do about the marathon but I think that it’s great that you know that you have a spot to run it in 2014.

Sorry to hear that! You’ve really been knocked down. Ease back into your training–you don’t want to relapse!

Congrats on the deferment. I’m so glad they offered that option.

I am glad you finally got some answers!!! I do have a question on the marathon deferment, does that mean you have to pay again?

Well, at least it’s good to know why you have been feeling so bad. I hope you feel better soon. Don’t push yourself to get better too fast though. Listen to your body.
