I am not a fan of running in the rain. Normally I just do an indoor activity-spinning, DVD, weights, etc. Monday was the end of a particularly stressful week and I really needed to run. When Chris came home from work and said let’s run, I begrudgingly agreed because I needed the stress relief, plus it was only drizzling when we left.
My aversion to running in the rain is not necessarily the rain or getting wet. My aversion is related to two thing in particular. Number one, I dislike it when my feet are soaked, as in my socks and sneakers soaked through. Number two, the fact that the ground is slick which makes it easy to slip and fall.
This particular run started with drizzle that slowly got harder and harder until we were running in a full blown downpour. At first it actually felt great and by dodging puddles I managed to keep my pretty dry until the end of the second mile when a truck splashed an enormous amount of water all over me, what wasn’t wet at this point was now soaked including my socks and sneakers. I did manage to complete all three miles without slipping, one out of two is not bad!
I survived my rain soaked run. Dare I say I even enjoyed it despite the completely soaked socks and sneakers. I may even make a habit out of running in the rain as long as it is not cold or thundering and lightening out.
A big thanks to Chris for getting me out there despite my whining about getting wet!!
Do you run in the rain?
