This weekend is the Long Island Festival of Races which includes a kids fun run, a 1 mile run, a 5K, a 10K, a half-marathon and a marathon. I am
racing running the Long Island Half Marathon, I debated dropping down to the 10K considering my last long run was the NYC Half, but I feel good and have my friend Mike for company and motivation. Mike made an amazing transformation partly due to running, you can check out his story here, and I love being able to run with him, especially since he will be moving to Florida and this may be our last race together on Long Island.
The weather, other than the wind prediction, is looking pretty good for race day:
I headed to the expo today to pick up my bib, see my friend Ra from KT Tape and to see my old friends from the We Are Athletes Racing Team.
When I arrived the line was long, probably a hundred people, but it moved fast and it took no time at all for me to have my bib in my hand. After I got my bib, I headed to the We Are Athletes booth and caught up with old friends. I plan to try to attend as many practices and races with the team as I possibly can this summer, because I do really miss them! So, I will officially be
racing running with them on Sunday!
Next stop was to see friend Ra and to have him tape my knee!
I have been having ITB problems, so I figured I’d rather be safe than sorry and have some KT Tape support. The first time I met Ra was at the LI Marathon Expo and he save my race!!! He even hooked me up with some Boston Strong KT Tape. My ITB feels better already!
I discovered a few other finds at the expo that I will tell you all about in a later post! I love these expos, but I could spend a small fortune at the booths.
Here is my race outfit for Sunday and what a runner looks like when they dress up a few days before a race:
I have participated in the Long Island Festival of races since 2011, where I achieved my half-marathon PR.
Here are my past recaps:
May 1,2011, The Long Island 1/2 Marathon, Race time: 1:54:36 (PR)
May 6, 2012, Long Island 10K, Race time: 55:41
May 5, 2013, Long Island 10K, Race time: 56:19
I am looking forward to enjoying this half, no pressure, definitely no PR’s, just running and fun!
Are you running any races this weekend?
