My nutritional intake has been off kilter for a while. Pretty much up until August when I started my Crossfit’s nutrition challenge, I just ate anything I wanted without regard to the nutritional content. As you can imagine this left me feeling less than stellar, plus I was not achieving any of my physical goals.
I begged my Crossfit to do a nutrition challenge so that I could get myself back on track and they did!!! The unfortunate part of this particular challenge was that the last week was during my Virginia Beach vacation and I would have been lying if I said I would stick with it during that week. In the end I basically followed the first three weeks of the challenge to the tee, with the exception of a pumpkin beer or two, and during my vacation I tried to eat as nutritiously as possible.
At the start of the challenge my body fat was assessed and mine was 28.8%, which is acceptable, but on the higher end of healthy. Based on this assessment I needed to lose 9 pounds of body fat to be in ideal health. During the 3 weeks of the challenge I lost 5 pounds, but regained 2.8 pounds during my vacation.
Here is a quick breakdown of the changes I made to my diet during the nutrition challenge:
- Week 1: Weigh and measure all food, eliminate added sugars and processed foods andaz consume protein at every meal.
- Week 2: Hydrate, add a healthy fat to each meal, and consume at least 1 serving of fruit or vegetables at every meal.
- Week 3: Eat at least 4 meals a day, eliminate grains and consume a balanced breakfast (40/30/30 ratio).
The hardest part was eliminating added sugar because everything has sugar in it, even my mayonnaise had sugar in it. Just with that one step I basically eliminated all processed foods and all grains, with the exception of Ezekiel bread. I thought for me this would be the hardest part, but it actually was easier than I thought!!
I did use premade meals from Muscle Up Paleo for my lunches and dinners 5 days a week, which was a huge help. It didn’t hurt that the food was absolutely delicious!!! If you live in the Long Island area you should definitely check them out!
Since I was well prepared, I had no excuses to pick up any junk.
Now that I am back from vacation I am utilizing many of these steps in my every day meals, with the exception of giving up grains. I plan to limit the grains that I eat, but I am not in favor of eliminating any food group from my diet, I feel that I can eat anything in moderation.
By eating healthfully I have experienced a big difference in my energy levels and performance. I have also seen an improvement in my muscle definition. Overall I feel healthier.
To continue on my healthy eating journey I have joined my friend Laura’s September Reset Challenge! Laura blogs over at Mommy Run Fast and is a holistic health coach! Laura has provided me with access to her September Reset Challenge at no charge in exchange for my honest review. The challenge begins on 9/8 so if you want to be a part of it you still have tie to sign up!!!
I am looking forward to resetting my metabolism and working toward being the healthiest I can be!!!
