Last Thursday I had the opportunity to participate in Timex Sports ONE Relay to raise money for the ASPCA. This was such an amazing experience from start to finish and was an awesome way to kick off my NYC Marathon weekend.
My day began on the LIRR on train bound for Penn Station. Once I arrived I decided to walk the 20 plus blocks to Columbus Circle to meet the Times Sports ONE Relay team. I was one of five people running this portion of the leg which would take place in Central Park. I signed up for six miles as well as another runner, Tim from Timex, so we would be doing the yellow loop. The rest of the runners were doing different loops based on their mileage.
Although everyone was running different distances around Central Park we all started together at Columbus Circle.
One of the runners I was Gene, the runner on the left, who is the creator of Charity Miles which is a fantastic app that allows you to raise money for a charity just by running, biking or walking. Gene took his passions and created an app to support them, his story is truly inspiring. I had the opportunity to run about a miles or so with him and he offered me some great advice for the NYC Marathon. He told me to enjoy every moment and mile because as hard as it was going to be I would want each moment back and you know what, he was 100% right!
After Gene left it was me and Tim for the rest of the 6 mile loop. Tim works with Timex and is a Team Timex athlete!! This man is an amazing athlete, far above my level, but he was nice enough to slow his pace to run the entire time with me and I appreciated every moment.
We even got to run through the marathon finish line. It was amazing to get a sneak peak!!! We finished our loop in under an hour! In that time we raised $1200 for charity. I’d say it was a great hour spent.
In addition to running with an Ironman, I had the opportunity to beta-test the new Timex Ironman One GPS+ watch.
Despite it’s size it was remarkably light, plus I have a teeny wrist which makes the watch look even larger. This watch has so many features including phone free messaging, speed and distance tracker, and music. Basically you could leave the house for a run with just this watch and some water and be good. The messaging feature is awesome, you can get motivational messages while on long runs and if anything were to happen you can send a message with your location to your loved ones.
This was one of the many messages I received during the Timex ONE Relay. Great motivation to keep moving forward!!! In addition to raising $600 for the ASPCA thanks to Timex, I had the opportunity to be a part of this amazing event. I even got to run with an Ironman, now how often would that happen?!?!
Thanks Timex for a great event!!!
