Running is hard work, but isn’t anything that is worthwhile achieving. It was hard becoming a wife and mother. It was hard going to school and becoming an RN at 28. It was even harder going back to school at 34 to get my Bachelor’s degree, which I just got by the way. It is going to be hard packing up my life and moving to Tampa. Trying to BQ by 40 is going to be hard. Life is hard. All of these things are hard, but all of these things also bring a great sense of pride and achievement.
This week I started training with Jess to become race ready. Monday I started out great with hill repeats and then it all went downhill from there. Monday I worked all day and then came home for a couple of hours only to get called back in. I left the hospital at 3:06 am, got home by 3:40 am and got to sleep by 4 am. Now this wouldn’t have been so bad if I didn’t have to be back at work at 7 am. I had already emailed just to switch Wednesday’s rest day for Tuesday’s run. Thankfully got out early from work and had the opportunity to take an hour nap, I didn’t feel great but I felt better.
As I sat thinking about not running I came to the conclusion that despite being tired I should still do my assigned workout. Sometimes circumstances make running hard and sometimes we just have to suck it up an run anyway. I am not saying that this will always be the case, but in today’s instance I knew not running because I was tired was just an excuse. Sometimes pushing through difficult runs makes us stronger and today was one of those days for me.
Sometimes runs are tough. Circumstances can make them tougher like working all day yesterday then getting called back in at 10:30pm, getting home at 3:40 am only to be back at work at 7 am. I got about an hour and a half of sleep. Thankfully I was able to leave around 12:30 and come home to nap. I had already emailed my coach @racepacejess to switch tomorrow's rest day with today's run, but as I started thinking about it I knew I should just get out there and do it. Some runs will be tough. A BQ will be tough, but that means sometimes we have to embrace the discomfort and that is exactly what I did today! Now I feel awesome! It was hard but I did it! #noexcuses #liveyourdreams #BQby40 #fitfluential #ffcheckin #running #racepacerunner #asics #runchat #runners
Do you think it makes you stronger to push through difficult runs?
