Since moving to Florida running has been hard. Running alone has been even harder. Last week I finally made some new running friends and I was so excited to run again with them this week. We met up at 6:15 am at a park, unfortunately it didn’t open until 7:00 am and the ranger caught us sneaking in anyway and sent us back out to the street. We started our run by heading into a local community where there was a “secret” path into the park. This “secret” path was actually through the woods. Now I am all about adventure, but through the woods in the dark with possible critters and spiders did freak me out a little. Allison found the path and Dawn led us through. With the exception of the initial wooded area and fence climbing it wasn’t so bad and we did make into the park relatively unscathed (one did get a nasty scratch, the unfortunate pitfalls of traipsing through the woods).
Once we hit the park the next 5 miles were on the path. I left most of the ladies at the parking lot, but not without a group picture this time.

I thought I would be heading out for the rest on my run alone, but Allison and Michelle decided to some more mileage so I actually waited and headed back out with them. Running down here is much better with awesome company!!!! We took a different path in the park and ended up at a park with a mini zipline. What do you do one you find a mini zipline???? Of course you do it!!! What better way to break up a long 3 hour run????
Allison and I had a blast on the ziplines, Michelle declined in favor of keeping her feet on the ground, a wise decision. We ran for about a mile and a half after ziplining and then the heat got the best of us leading to a lot of walking. We finished with a total time of 3 hours and 10 minutes (my assigned time was 2 hours and 50 minutes).
Was it my fastest run? No. Was it one of my most fun runs in Florida? Yes.
Running in Florida has been hot and lonely. Finding a group of ladies who I truly like and can run with has been amazing. I foresee many running adventures in our future!!!
Tell me your favorite long run adventure.
