Lots of people don’t understand my obsession with running. I get questioned all the time about why I still run after so many injuries and my answer is always the same, because I love it. Running is my release, my stress reliever, my break from the day to day nonsense that could drive a worrier like me crazy. Not running for three months has pretty much made me insane. Yes, I walk, but no, it’s not the same.
Yesterday my hip was starting to bother me again. Now to be honest I hadn’t done the stretches my PT had given me in two days. Why? Because in the craziness of work and life I forgot. The result, pain in my hip. Instead of stretching yesterday when I felt the pain my crazy mind jumped to the conclusion once again I would never run and would need surgery and on and on the negative thoughts flowed through my head.
I had my 2nd PT appointment at 5 pm and even considered cancelling it because all I could see was doom and gloom. I didn’t cancel and boy was that the right decision because I actually got to run during treatment yesterday and guess what?? No increasing pain. Now I may only have run for three minutes, but that is three minutes more than I have done in 3 months.
I felt much better after my appointment and my homework is to perform the stretches every 2-3 hours until I see him again on Thursday. I thought after running I would wake up in pain today, but thankfully I feel great which gives me hope that by February I will be back for sure!!
What I am most upset about is that I didn’t seek the proper treatment right away because it seems just a simple stretch has made all the difference in the world. I saw an urgent care doctor after the initial injury and he just told me to rest. The injury felt better at times but never really healed. I held off seeing an orthopedist because I was in between insurance and let’s be real, doctors cost a lot of money when you don’t have insurance. Looking back I should have went to an ortho instead of an urgent care doctor and paid for a couple of visits of PT. well, you live and learn right?
Feeling great! I had PT today and not only do I feel 90% better, I even got to run! Now it was only at 4.5 and only for a couple of minutes, but it felt great! Hoping this is the beginning of me feeling better and getting back to running regularly! #TeamASICS #TeamASICSNYCM #runchat #sweatpink #ffcheckin #fitfluential #running #injuriessuck
