Disclosure: As a Fit Foodie Ambassador I was able to attend all events associated with the race with a friend at no cost for my honest opinion of this event.
This recap is a few weeks coming. I honestly forgot to write it. Day 1 is up and ready to be viewed, check it out here. I definitely partied with a purpose, unfortunately that purpose was not to run a 15K the next day. I aim to be pretty honest on this blog and the party the night before the race definitely did not help my race. Is this the race’s fault….no. This is my fault for thinking I can actually party before a race and restrain myself. I mean give me celebs-Ryan Hall & Bill Rodgers plus an open bar….no restraint here.
Despite the lack of restraint I still woke up at 5 am for the race. The 15K started at 6:45 am and the 5K at 7:00 am. My friend Allison was only slightly late picking me up. The ride to the race was fairly unobstructed by traffic and the parking was easy. Not at all like a NY race. I was at the start line with plenty of time to spare.
Allison stayed with me for awhile and then headed to her start for the 5K. There was a warm-up led by the elites-Ryan Hall & Bill Rodgers-and then we were pretty much off and running!
I would love to say that this was easy, but it wasn’t. I was slightly hung over from the Party With A Purpose and that definitely did not help my running. The race was an out and back down Bayshore. If you know Tampa, you know Bayshore. If not, it is basically a road that borders Tampa Bay for 4.5 miles. It is beautiful and boring all at the same time.
Sunrise was beautiful. Running out and back on the same long road…not so much. Maybe it was because I was cranky and not feeling my best, but I was just not loving it. I was happy at the turnaround…
I wished there were more water stops, but overall, the race was great. Well organized for the most part.
My biggest complaint would be when you finished you didn’t get your medal and there was absolutely no direction on where to go. You actually had to head back to the park where the booths were and when you entered the park they gave you your medal, it takes a little something away from enjoying your finish.
The event after the race was awesome. There were a ton of booths with samples, a braiding bar, a photo booth, pictures with the elite athletes, food demonstrations, workouts and dancing!
My favorite brand that was there was SUJA!!!! I am obsessed with their juice. They are organic, delicious and reasonably priced!!!
I grabbed a few samples! My favorite is the water, maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne one!! After downing a SUJA juice, Allison and I grabbed a pic with our buddies Ryan and Bill!!!!
We stayed the entire event and it was worth it! We danced, or at least I danced……
We ate…..the Kale, Jicama, and Orange Salad was my favorite. I may have went back for seconds or fifths….
We ended the event with a picture.
It was a fun day!! One of my favorite races ever!!! I can’t wait to do it again next year!!!!!
Have you run a Fit Foodie Race?

Way to go with running a race hung over! I won’t even have a glass of wine the night before a long run because I’m so nervous about being dehydrated and feeling sluggish and all that not fun jazz haha. That post race party sounds pretty awesome! Though I agree you should get your medal right after the finish line.
I really dont do it often but I did run the Queens 10K completely hungover, probably still drunk… because we had our annual party the night before, I would never have run but I had a friend offer to drive….I ran pretty good fueled by margaritas…I dont recommend it though.
Love that medal! Your race skirt is awesome as well 😉 I sometimes have ONE drink the night before a race, mainly to help me fall asleep. Back in May, though, we had to go to a senior graduation party at our daughter’s sorority…and I had more than just one drink. Low and behold, the next morning I ran my fastest 13.1 in almost two years…and it was a hilly course. Things that make you go “Hmmmm” LOL

haha, see alcohol can be fuel….
Tampa is a great place to run cause it is so flat! I do love waterside routes. Cute outfit!
I’ve never done a Fit Foodie race but it does sound like fun! I’m sorry you were hungover. I imagine that made things a lot more challenging.
Weird that you couldn’t pick up your medal right after the race – that seems odd.

The race sounds like a blast! I love your outfit and the medal…Congratulations!!
Fit Foodie certainly knows how to put on a great event, and I’ve always loved the opportunity to sample some absolutely delicious food at their Virginia event. Their event here is only a 5k. I’d love to run a longer race of theirs.
