I cannot believe my little blog is turning six!!!! This blog began as a journal for me to chronicle my training to a sub-2 half-marathon, but is blossomed into so much more.
Here is an excerpt from my very first blog post:
“Life is filled with dreams that wait to become reality. We can achieve that reality only if we make an attempt to live our dreams and pursue our passions. We only get one chance at life and we never know what tomorrow will bring, so we need to live in the present and turn our dreams into reality. I plan to blog about the road to my dreams and show that anything is possible if you try.”
Fun fact: My blog’s original name was Running, Loving, Loving: the road to my dreams. I dropped the second half when I moved to wordpress.
Six years later I feel like I am right back at this same place. I am aiming to run a 1:45 half marathon in Key West in 2018. It will be the 20th Anniversary of the race and my 40th birthday weekend. This is a goal I have had for a long time and I locked it away. The Key West Half this year unlocked this goal for me and I want it now more than ever. So six years later my blog will return to where it started, chronicling my training. This time I have about 50 weeks to get faster and I am looking to PR by about 10 minutes.
I by far exceeded my goal the last time and I expect nothing less from myself this time. I have lots of work to do on myself, but I am totally prepared to do what it takes to reach my goal. Not only do I plan to meet my goal I plan to be in the best shape of my life. I am definitely pulling some inspiration from the woman, yes I said woman, who won this year’s Key West Half. At 37 years of age she won and she beat the first man by 59 seconds, pretty amazing.
I am excited to share this challenge with you this year! This is one goal I don’t plan to let slip away.
Have you ever had a goal that you let slip away?
