Anyone who has said it is easy to pick up where you left off was not talking about running, at least not in my case. A little over a month ago I completed a half-marathon in 1:54:36 and now running 9 minute miles on a 3 mile run felt like torture. I met a set of twins at the beginning of the half-marathon whose goals were to run about the same time I planned on running, one of the twins actually had not run since her last half-marathon in October. She is apparently one of those people who can ...

National Running Day and Goal Re-Evaluation
Today is National Running Day, a day to celebrate the sport you love or to try something new... let's say like running. Go for a run in the morning to start your day off right or go for a midday run with your co-workers or even go for a night time run with the family. All you need to do is lace up your sneakers and go, it is that easy and in the process you can do something you already love or possibly discover a new love for running. Check out the National Running Day web site for great tips, ...
Have you ever swallowed a fly while running?
This topic was inspired by my husband, Chris. He not only jogs but apparently during the past few weeks he has managed to swallow a few flies in the process. Every time he does this he asks me if I have ever swallowed any flies, the answer is no. One thing I have managed not to do while running is swallow flies, I hope to keep this from happening if at all possible. Have you ever swallowed a fly while running? I have actually ran through swarms of flies while running and have still ...
Injuries Suck
Let's face it, injuries suck. My knee is injured and it sucks. I have been trying to rest it by not running except for the couple of 2 milers I did as a test to see if my knee was okay but I failed miserably. Running is a passion of mine and I love it, it not only makes me feel great but it also keeps me calm and happy. Without running I am a much crankier person, I am not myself and this reflects in my attitude and how I feel in general. My frustration with my knee is making me crazy, although ...
Running Update
You may have noticed that my blog has been lacking in one aspect.....running. Here's the story, basically after I ran the Long Island Half Marathon I took a week off to rest, then when I did run so I could break in new shoes I tweaked something in my right knee. I have basically been resting with the exception of a few short runs thrown into the mix just to see how my knee was doing and currently I still have some slight pain but much better than 2 weeks ago. Just so you know I have been doing ...
Good News and Bad News Plus Some Race Day Prep
The bad news is: The good news is that this is my third attempt at trying to get in which means next year I am guaranteed entry. I will be running the 2012 NYC Marathon!!!! Now I have plenty time to prepare and train! With less than 3 days to go until the Long Island Half Marathon I have been spending the morning checking out the weather and course map. Weather is looking great, should be in the 50’s when we start which is perfect! My race day outfit should work ...
11 Miles and a Surprise Visit
Last night I had severe pain in my right side, so bad I thought at one point it might be appendicitis. I don’t know if everyone knows this but I am a Registered Nurse, which sometimes leads to a serious overreaction and self-diagnosis. The pain continued throughout the night and when I woke up this morning it was still there ever so slightly. I decided to eat, wait 2 hours and if I felt good I would go for my run. After the pain I had last night I ...
