This morning I woke up refreshed, not too sore and ready to tackle my scheduled training for today: Yoga.
Unlocking Athletic Power is one of my favorite yoga DVDs that I have had in my collection for over ten years. This DVD is the perfect companion to my running program. Baron Baptiste leads you through a 30 minute power Vinyasa session which stretches and strengthens your entire body. I always feel renewed after practicing yoga when I first wake up. The practice not only stretches all my sore muscles but it clears my mind for the day ahead.
I know stretching before and after running is a good way to help prevent injuries but I usually neglect that part of training because I find it boring or I don’t have enough time. Yoga allows me to stretch all the muscles associated with running and I enjoy the practice, so I plan to incorporate yoga into my training schedule for the 1/2 marathon at least 2-3 times a week.
Do you practice yoga or have a stretching routine you follow to help prevent injuries?
