My first training run with mile repeats was a success! It’s amazing how consistency with running or anything in life for that matter can provide the basis for success. As I have written in the past I have issues with follow through so every time I complete a successful training run I feel elated, not only because I completed the run but also because I followed through with my scheduled training.
- 1 mile warm up at 6 mph (10 min mile)
- 1 mile at 7.2 mph (8:20 min mile)
- 0.5 mile recovery at 6 mph
- 1 mile at 7.3 mph (8:13 min mile)
- 0.5 recovery at 6 mph
- 1 mile cool down at 6 mph
- Total: 5 miles 46:35
This training run was the fastest I have ever run 5 miles and it was almost a minute quicker than last week’s Tempo run. Pre-run I had half of a piece of homemade banana bread which sat well in my stomach and kept me fueled through out this workout. Immediately post-run I had a protein shot and I plan to have 2 poached eggs with Eziekiel bread for breakfast.
Even though I am only in my second week of training I am feeling more and more that I will meet my goal of running the half-marathon in under 2 hours. Consistency and follow through is the key and with each successful run I feel motivated to complete the next training run on my schedule. Tomorrow is a 4 mile easy run which I may or may not run outside depending on the weather.
