We are going into week 3 of the #Fitblog planks challenge and I am grateful to have this challenge going on right now because due to my knee injury I will have to take some time off from other exercises but planks I can still do!! I am supposed to be also starting my 4th week of the Supreme 90 day workout but I will have to forego some of the workouts due to my knee injury. I still plan on doing the Supreme 90 day workouts minus lower body and cardio DVD’s and any other exercise that put pressure on my knee. This leaves me with abs and upper body only, at least until I see what the orthopedist has to say about my knee.
My goal for the end of this challenge is to be able to hold a plank for 3 minutes and during my test today I was able to hold the plank for 1 minute 56 seconds. These kind of achievements is why I love my body. When I first started the challenge I was only able to hold the plank for 50 seconds (see week one of #fitblog planks challenge). This week I can hold the plank for a whole minute and 6 seconds longer…..amazing. My husband Chris, who is my plank partner was able to hold his plan for 1 minute 10 seconds (his goal is 2 minutes). When you put in the time and work into a goal it is absolutely amazing to find out what your body can accomplish.
Sometimes we take for granted how great our bodies are, complaining they are too fat or too slow or not strong enough, but each day when we wake up and can get from point A to point B is a day we can be grateful for. I love that my body can run half-marathons (although due to a knee injury not right this second), some people cannot run at all. I love my body because it was able to give birth to 2 beautiful healthy girls, some people are unable to have children. I love my body because it helps me to live my life to the fullest, everyday I wake up and take a breath is another day I get to live and enjoy my life, all thanks to my body.
As a nurse I see what happens when a person’s body shuts down or doesn’t work perfectly, sometimes it is a situation that is related to age, sometimes it is related to illness, sometimes it is related to years of abuse and sometimes it related to an accident, whatever the cause it is difficult to adjust to life when your body is not working at an optimal level. Unfortunately we cannot control aging but we can take care of our bodies by exercising and eating healthy to help prevent age related disabilities. Illness is also another factor that cannot always be controlled, we can take the best care of our bodies but duke to genetics and environmental factors, even the healthiest individuals cans still contract illnesses like cancer. Accidents are also unpreventable but if we take good care of our bodies everyday the aftermath of an accident can be dealt with, however hard the recovery we can recover. Abuse related to drugs, alcohol and overeating can also take it’s toll on our bodies but getting help and overcoming these addictions can allow us to live a longer, happier life.
I love my body right now for what it can do everyday, and I plan to treat my body well by exercising and eating clean so in the years to come it keeps working for me.
Why do you love your body?
