This weekend was a busy one. I worked both Saturday and Sunday visiting a ton of patients. Saturday after work we went to the park, out to dinner and then we watched The Hangover 2 which was hysterical, the first one was better but this one was worth seeing too! Sunday I got up early walked with a friend at a local preserve, worked, ran a 5K and then went out to the bar. Busy, Busy, Busy!!!
When my friend Marian and I lived closer we used to walk most mornings at 5am, all year long, but since I moved a little further away we now meet on Sundays whenever possible. Halfway between us is this beautiful preserve that was once a garbage dump, but except for the fact that it is behind the garbage facility you would never know it. When you walk to the top you can see all the way to NYC on a clear day, I almost feel like I’m on vacation because the views are so beautiful.
I used to run 5K’s all the time but for the past few years I have not had the opportunity to run any, mostly because I work weekend’s and holidays which is when most of the 5K’s are scheduled. Yesterday I got my chance to run a 5K for the first time in about 4 years or so and I loved it!!!!
The Firecracker Lift and Run 5K was at 5:00 pm and this is the reason I was able to do it. Most 5K’s are in the morning while I am working. This 5K has a lift part where you pay an extra $3.00, the weigh you in and then depending on your age you have to bench press a certain percentage of your body weight. For each rep you complete they take 1 second off your time. I did this run about 7 years ago and I couldn’t even lift the bar.
This year I weighed in at 125 and had to lift 60% of my body weight which was 75 lbs. One of the women before was lifting about the same weight and she did like 40 reps, she was like superwoman, luckily I didn’t have to go right after her and make a fool of myself. This year I was actually able to lift the bar off the rest but unfortunately it was all downhill after that, the bar pretty much kept going down and I could not get it to go up for the life of me. The 2 men that were spotting me and recording the amount of reps took pity on me and gave me one undeserved rep, at least my three bucks went for good cause.
They had an adorable fun run for the kids prior to the 5K and my friend Crystal’s daughter ran it!! She was adorable and did such a great job!!! Congrats Mikayla!! (She’s in the yellow and pink)
When the race started we parted ways, at this point I run faster so I took off completing my first mile in 7:35. I figured since it was only 3 miles I could push myself hard and that is exactly what I did scoring a new PR of 25:12 (the official race time). My Garmin time was actually 25:07 (I started the Garmin as soon as I crossed the Start line) for 3:13 miles with a moving time of 25:01. So I actually ran faster than the official time.
Last but not least I’d like to announce the winner of the Supreme 90 Day Giveaway:
