I have been working out since I was 19. I was an asthmatic child and really did not participate in any sports or activities growing up but after I had my first daughter I discovered weight lifting then I discovered running. Running helped to increase my lung capacity and reduced the amount of asthma attacks I had, running helped me alleviate stress and running helped me become a better, healthier person. I like all kinds of activities (weight lifting, yoga, pilates, Tae Bo and the list goes on and on…), but I LOVE running and this past week I rekindled that love.
Last week from Wednesday through Monday I ran everyday regardless of the weather, dark and even how I felt…..I just ran and you know what? It felt freeing and fantastic and just plain amazing. Running helps me to free my mind, body and soul. Running helps me work out my problems and brainstorm ideas. Running helps me to see my life more clearly, it helps me to all of life more clearly because life is a gift that should not be wasted.
Running is also a gift that should not be wasted. I am lucky enough to be able to go out and run whenever the mood strikes…..well that and when I have a babysitter of course. Some people aren’t so lucky. Running is something I hope to do for the rest of my life because it is a part of who I am and I couldn’t imagine my life without running. Running and I have had our issues, a few separations but I always find my way back to my love of running.
This weekend I am running a Hot Chocolate 5K with Chris in Seaford. It is difficult to get Chris to run races with me but this one is for a good cause plus racing is a great motivator to keep moving during the holiday season so I badgered him into running this one with me. I am hoping I can convince him to run the next 2 races I have on my schedule for December….only time will tell. Chris runs 3-4 times a week but he doesn’t love running the way I do so any race I can get him to do is an accomplishment.
I have a big year planned for running and I in 2012. First a 1/2 Marathon (either the NYC or the More) with a goal time of 1:45, another 1/2 over the summer and in the fall the NYC Marathon with a goal time of 4 hours. I plan to run at least 1000 miles. My 34th year is going to be a yearlong love affair with running….I hope my husband doesn’t get too jealous.
What activity do you love?

I love that you renewed your passion for running! Your goals sound great and I am sure you will meet and exceed all of them.
Right now I am adoring spinning and strength training. Both are highly enjoyable and a great way to meet my own goals for the year to come!
Thanks and good luck with your upcoming goals!
I love this post so much! You are describing my newfound love for running also. I too hope to do a half this spring, the Madison Half Marathon on Memorial Day weekend.
I know you can do this, I’m so psyched to hear all about your training, particularly your marathon training! Go Toni!! You motivate me!
Thanks Diana!! Good luck with your training!!
