Yesterday I ran for the first time in 6 weeks and I have to say I was really nervous. Would my leg be okay? WOuld I hurt it again? Can I actually run after 6 weeks? All these thoughts just flowed through my head all day while deciding if I should run or not. Midday I received this tweet:
The weather couldn’t have been better so at 5:30 when Chris arrived home I had no excuses not to run. We agreed to a slow 2 miles sans Garmin because I get too competitive with myself when I wear my Garmin and I knew I needed to take it slow and easy.
It was a tough 2 miles but I felt fantastic afterward and am so happy to be running again especially in this gorgeous weather (70 yesterday and today). My leg still feels great today and I will keep my fingers crossed it continues to feel good. I plan to try and run 2 more times this week both being slow and easy. Next week I will see about increasing the mileage depending on how I feel.
What have I learned from this whole experience?
The one thing I have learned is that I love to run and I even love when it is slow. At this point as long as I can run even it is slower than I would like I am happy. Only time will tell what my body can hold up to but for the next couple of months I just plan to run while slowly increasing my mileage…….I will work on speed after I have built up a solid base!! I want to run for a very long time and I plan on doing my best to remain injury free!!!!
What have you learned from an injury?
