How was your year of running?

Year of running

Miss Zippy asked and I answered.

Best race experience:  The Runner’s World Half Marathon was by far the best race experience I had, not only this year, but overall since I have been running.  I had the privilege of running this race with my friend Janet, who showed me that enjoying a race is not always about speed.  This race reminded me of what I love about running, which is enjoying the run and the other runners!

Best run:  I would have to say my best run this year was a 3.5 mile run with Bart Yasso and Budd Coates at the Runner’s World Half.  I mean let’s be honest, how often do I get to run with running legends, not that often.

Best new piece of gear:  MyRaceRagz shirt that I made for the 2014 NYC Marathon.

Best piece of running advice you received:  I don’t have to run, I get to run, because I can.

Most inspirational runner:  Janet Oberholtzer.  I first met Janet in 2012 at Fitbloggin, where I learned about her inspirational story, but I really got to know Janet this year at the Runner’s World Half and Festival.  After a tragic accident Janet was told she would never run again, but despite that prognosis, Janet overcame many obstacles to get to where she is today, running.  When I don’t feel like running, I think of Janet and that is motivation for me to get out the door…..because I can!!!

If you can sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?   This year I learned that running is not all about speed, it is about enjoying the run, whether it is fast or slow.

2013 was about recovery and reigniting my love of running.  2014 will be all about getting to the NYC Marathon, my first.

For me, it was the year of working towards getting healthy after a bad year of Achilles Tendonitis and lower back pain due to a mild degenerative disc. Mostly got over them and now working back to another Spring half marathon and then another Fall marathon for 2014. Best of luck to you in 2014!

My year of running was not my most epic but had some pretty great highlights. I am hoping for a less injured year next year. I love the shirt you designed, I should try that sometime.

I have not ran as much this year as I would have liked! In the New Year, we plan on running the San Diego half. I am looking forward to it!

My year in running was great! Partially because I finally got the courage to take that first step in faith that my body would be able to run and handle longer distances. I can’t explain adequately enough what running has done for me. I’m shooting for my first full next year too, even if it is just once I want to do a full marathon. Here’s to the New Year!

I feel the same way about the full, just once may be enough.

I’m so glad that 2013 had so many awesome running milestones for you and that even more is to come in 2014. Will be cheering you loudly from down here in ATL. Great advice that you shared too on getting to run rather than having to!
