Happy Friday all!!!!
I am officially in the midst of planning my 2014 racing calendar! For some runners, signing up for races can be an impulsive, sometimes addictive process. As I was claiming my guaranteed entry for the 2014 TCS Marathon a couple of weeks ago, the sign up for the NYC Half-marathon was right there in my face. This was not a race I was planning on entering this year, but I was enticed to throw my name into the lotto, I mean it was Cyber Monday and I saved a whole five dollars on the registration fee!!!
Yesterday, I received this:
Looks like my impulse landed me right into a half-marathon. This is actually one I have been wanting to run, so it all works out in the end and training starts next week!!!
At this time my 2014 race calendar only includes the NYC half-marathon and the NYC marathon, although I have a few others in mind that I have not committed to just quite yet.
My ultimate goal this year is to get to the NYC Marathon uninjured, which means I need to reign in my impulses and limit the amount of races I will run, unless I do them just for fun. This is easier said than done. I have specific criteria for what races I want to do this year and I am going to do my best to stick to it!
My full race calendar will be planned and finished by January!!! After January 1st, I plan to lock than that calendar and avoid any influences that will make me want to sign up for other races, unless of course a special event comes my way!!!
Do you have problems controlling your impulses when it comes to signing up for races?
