Happy Friday all!
I am getting back to my blogging roots and writing about things I want to write about and share with you! I have felt so pressured (by myself) to write for this blog that it just got to be too much so I took a break. Now that I am done with school and back to running I am feeling refreshed and ready to get back to the things I love which includes this blog.
This week I started running again and it feels great to get back to it!
- Sunday I ran 3 miles and though it was tough, it felt amazing to just be running again.
- Tuesday I went to PT for the last time for my shoulder and although it is definitely better it does still hurt at times. I plan to continue my PT at home and start to add some strengthening exercises into my routine.
- Wednesday sucked. I waited for my husband and we went for a 3 mile run after work. A couple of blocks in I knew it was going to be a sucky run. My lungs were burning and my legs felt like lead, but since I have a 10K to run I Sunday I kept going. Halfway through we both had to walk a few blocks. We finished, but it just plain sucked.
Why do some runs just plain suck?
I am not really sure of the answer but I will take a few guesses:
- Some runs just plain suck for no reason at all
- This particular run was only the second one after not running for a month
- My nutrition has been less than stellar
- 15 extra pounds
So what do I plan to do about this???
Right now, just keep running. I was supposed to run the Long Island Marathon but back in March I decided to drop down to the half or the 10K because the training was just stressing me out and making me hate running. After I made that decision I ended up having to take off a month for my shoulder injury so without much training I will be running the 10K this Sunday instead of the marathon.
I have also decided to join the K-Fit 6 Challenge which starts on May 18th.
I met Kendrick at the Diva’s Half Marathon Expo and he is pretty awesome. We have kept in touch virtually so when I got an email about this challenge a couple of days ago I knew I had to join!!! The challenge is to help runner’s drop fat, tone up, prevent injuries, get faster and run happy. If you need all those things like I do then you should definitely check out Kendrick’s website. This challenge is open to a limited number of people and until May 3rd Kendrick is offering an early bird special so head over to his site today!
Now that I am running again I have also been using Runner’s Choice Oil to soothe my sore feet and legs. This oil is da bomb!!! I just love it and now I get the opportunity to share some with you!! Check out my full review here. Trusted Health Products was generous enough to giveaway three bottles of Runner’s Choice Oil to three of my readers!

My advice, when a run gets sucky, I end up walking and still get my exercise in.
Thanks Harold! That is what we did, it was rough

I always try to give sucky runs a little time. Most of the time it’s just mental and if I push through one or two miles, it gets better. If it doesn’t get better after that, sometimes I’ll stop and do another type of workout instead.

You’re right, sometimes runs just flat out suck and there’s no rhyme or reason to why. I hate those runs the most. If there’s a reason why it sucked (tough workout the day prior, not sleeping well, not eating well), I feel a bit better about the run because I at least know why it sucked.

go easy on yourself. Only a second run back, it takes a while. You will spring back, just don’t overdo it. I had a run slump last fall and it was a challenge to work back up to “normal” mileage and any speedwork. It eventually came back and am now better than before.

music is the most important when running alone and the setting, I am lucky and live in the country, it is beautiful here!
dont go out too fast on any run! You’ll pay for it in the second half
For me, bad runs are either due to asthma complications or dehydration. Staying on top of my water intake every day is critical!

That challenge looks pretty cool. I would love to lose a few pounds. I always gain weight when training and it’s so frustrating!!

I blame my sucky runs on perimenopause and yes, extra weight. Hang in there, this too shall pass. That challenge sounds good!

Yay for you to get back into running!! I try to get through sucky runs with good music or to remember what my roots are with running. When I was half marathon training I would constantly remind myself that I couldn’t run a mile when I started and I already went X miles that run.

I always find it so odd when out of nowhere you go for a run and inexplicably your legs feel like lead. Usually that’s a sign the run isn’t going to be great. I just push through it and maybe cut it short and add a different type of workout.

No idea! Maybe you just need to take a break like you did with blogging? Hope you get back to loving it soon though 😀

Most of my bad runs are usually due to poor nutrition. I can tell when I don’t eat properly, and it really shows in my workouts!
Nutrition is key.
I have definitely had sucky runs. Many of them actually. Not much you can do about them but hope all the sucky runs happen during training and not on race day (have also had a few sucktastic race runs too…)

LOL I have had a few sucktastic races myself.
My advice for having a suck free run is to choose some jazz to listen to while running. It always makes my runs so much more enjoyable.
Run on an elliptical so there is less pressure.
Sometimes runs definitely do suck! This happened to me a few times this winter when I would run inside on a treadmill. I started to try to make the runs more interesting by changing it up. I’d do interval runs, which made the time pass better and ultimately helped my speed.

Wwll, most runners would say that ALL my runs suck. (My goal in any race is simply to finish and not hurt myself. If I can avoid being last, that’s a bonus.) So my tip is “Any time you cross a finish line is a good time.” That and “‘No matter what my time, it’s faster than sitting on the couch.”
Any rn is a good run fast or slow. I judge my runs on my abilities alone. I run slow to some and fast to others. Good for you just for running!!!
Toni, I have never heard of this oil before. I am too late for the giveaway {bummer} so tell me more. I have the sorest calf muscles and they make my running days so much harder than normal. I know I need to work on my stretching more, but am really curious about the oil.
