In 2014 New York City was my first marathon and I thought it would be my last, that is until I crossed the finish line. In 2015 I thought I would run it again with Team ASICS, but that didn’t happen. So this year I am back for redemption. This year I will run NYC for the second time and most likely the last, we will see………..
I am running the New York City Marathon because I can. You see, I have been a procrastinator my entire life. I have started many things that I have never finished, with some exceptions like this blog (almost 6 years), training for races, and completing my Associates and then subsequently my Bachelor’s degree in nursing. When I am determined I can meet any goal, but there are many times I just start stuff (like creating an email list) and never finish, at least not in a timely fashion.
Running has never been something I have given up on and it is the one thing, other than my family and friends, that I make a priority in my life. Get up at 4:30 am to run…no problem. Spend 5 hours on a Sunday morning running…no problem. Training for a race….no problem. Now, marathon training has been somewhat of a problem only because it seems I cannot stay away from injury. The training for the marathon has not been a problem, but staying injury free has been. After this marathon I plan to take a break from marathon training and focus on half marathons, at least for next year.
Now back to the original question…..Why Am I Running The New York City Marathon? Because I can. Because it is one of the most amazing marathons in the world. Because New York City. And finally Because I need redemption from last year’s fail.
