The first night of sleep was decent. We were in a small, but great apartment and I felt safe until like 11 pm when I started hearing a bunch of “partying” outside. I am old and started to feel nervous that we were in an unsecure apartment….mind you that you needed to be buzzed into the building, it was a walk up and we were on the 5th floor. All the noises outside created a mild paranoia in my brain and made me very anxious, it eventually subsided and I slept for a few hours.
I woke up sore and this is when I realized I walked way too much the day before. I mean what was I thinking??? We walked a couple of blocks to breakfast and then back to the apartment to rest.
At the base of the stairs was a package and nosy me looked to see who the package was for……imagine my surprise when it was for me!!!!! Angelica and I got it up the five flights of stairs and opened it immediately. The package consisted of chocolate covered pretzels and strawberries were looked amazing!
Unfortunately there was a note, but it didn’t say who they were from???????
I called my husband because I knew that he would know who sent the gift. As it turns out it was my “runner” friends. I called Arleen immediately and she told me that was the second gift and the first as sent to the wrong address. Apparently since AirBnB is not exactly kosher in NY the first address I gave Chris was not right, so the first package was sent to the wrong address. Arleen said it was delivered, so I had to find it……
As much as I walked the day before Angelica and I went on a scavenger hunt to locate the first package. Guess what????? We found it!!!! It was across the street but behind a gate. I called out to a tenant behind the gate and told her I thought that the cookie package was mine and it turns out it was and she gave it to me. I called Arleen to let her know I got both packages!!! So exciting!! It was also so nice to know that I made such good friends that they actually thought of me in New York!!!! Best friends ever!!!!!!!!
After our scavenger hunt Angelica and I just laid down and rested until about one o’clock. We ordered an uber around 1:30 to take us back to the NYC Marathon Expo prior to heading to the Generation UCAN Facebook Live event I was invited to with Meb. I had two things to do at the marathon expo: (1) find a headband and (2) see Bart Yasso, you know….normal stuff. Both accomplished.
After the expo we headed to the Facebook Live event which was pretty close. Angelica decided to hang at a nearby Starbucks, while I headed up many floors up to meet Meb. I was so excited to see Jen and Sandra….
…..and all the other bloggers who attended. It was an honor to be there, especially when Meb showed up 30 minutes early and hung out with us. We learned a lot about Meb in those 30 minutes.
This was an awesome event and you can check out the Facebook live here. It was amazing to meet Meb who was so amazingly normal and to learn all about Generation UCAN.
We learned Meb was retiring, but he wouldn’t disclose his last race, but now we all know that his last official race will be the NYC Marathon 2017.
After the Facebook Live event Angelica and I had planned on heading back to the apartment that is until my friend Jen offered us both VIP tickets to the NYC Marathon Dinner. We gladly accepted the tickets and the ride to the event at Central Park.
It was a buffet featuring salad, chicken, pasta and bread….plus a free beer to all those over 21. We ate, we drank (one beer only) and then we headed into the marathon pavilion where we found our names amongst the 55,000 other runners.
It was a great night and I was so happy to have attended!!!!
Afterward Angelica and I called an Uber to get back to the apartment, but not before Jen gave us two finish line grandstand passes for the next day!!! Jen was one of the Five Borough Runners. She represented Staten Island and actually got to start the race before anyone else!!!! Thanks Jen for all you generosity!!!!!
I crashed hard by the time we got back to the apartment, but unfortunately I did not sleep well…….
Stay tuned for Day 3….The Marathon….coming soon…
