Where did the last three weeks go? Apparently I have not recapped my training in awhile. I think maybe it’s more mental. I have been having some hip/leg/knee issues since Mount Dora, pretty sure my ITB angry IT. So I have not felt like recapping, but I am going to now!

Only a five more days until I run Naples. I won’t be adding many more training miles to this training cycle this week, mostly I am just laying low. I have lowered my expectations on my goal just because training has not gone the way I would have liked. I have three goals for Naples as of right now:
- A: 1:45
- B: PR
- C: under 1:55
I really want the 1:45, but I am good with a PR. I guess we will see what Sunday brings. I am also heading into a new age group on Friday, just in time for the race. Forty here I come!!!
How do you reign in your goals when training hasn’t gone as planned?

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing pain in your knee and leg. I think you’re making the right decision by not logging any more miles this week before the race. I hope that the race goes well for you!

Reigning in one’s goals is very personal, and, of course, based on the specific circumstances. If I’ve had a bad training cycle (whether it’s from injury or lack of “good” mileage), I owe it to myself to accept my reality. Grandiose goals sound fun, but ultimately if my body (or mind)is just not ready, those grandiose goals can be a total buzzkill if/when something goes awry on race day. That said, it’s important to keep an open mind, hope for the best, and not talk yourself out of giving your best effort. Injuries are so fickle….some can diminish after a good warm-up, but others can quickly become a train wreck if pushed too far. Good luck!! I hope race day goes well for you!

I hope that knee cooperates with you for the Naples run! That would be super stressful to be worrying about leading up to a big race. Fingers crossed for you!

I wish you the best for your run in Naples! Women like you inspire me!! Keep it up!
Sorry things haven’t gone according to plan. It can be challenging to adjust things, but during those times, I just take a deep breath, force myself to be reasonable and change my plan. It can’t hurt to have a reach goal, but be safe and be careful.
